Police confirm that actor Robert Smith who was found dead in a Minden lake this week is the same person who faced past and current child porn charges.
According to a Global News article published today, Smith was sentenced in 2008 to 20 months in prison and three years probation after pleading guilty to possessing and distributing child porn.
Then this past June the same article reports that Smith was charged with two counts of distributing child porn and three counts each of possessing and accessing child porn.
Smith’s body was recovered after an intensive search Sunday at the North end of Minden Lake. He was first reported missing in Minden Hills July 22nd.
Foul play isn’t suspected in the case.
Smith was best known for his role playing an obnoxious Scotsman in Alexander Keith commercials who berated patrons (below video).
Toronto Police Service’s Manager Media Relations Connie Osbourne confirmed Smith’s identity with Country 102 today.
