Starting today, the OPP’s Civic Day Long Weekend Traffic Safety Campaign begins.
During the campaign members of the OPP will be out patrolling the highways and the waterways with an emphasis on the “Big 4”: seat belt compliance, distracted driving, impaired driving and speeding.
The OPP Sergeant Kerry Schmidt says 213 people have died so far this year in collisions.
The traffic safety campaign runs until Holiday Monday.

This is expected to be one of the busiest weekends on the roads and OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says most collisions are preventable.
He says people just need to slow down and take their time.
Police say falling overboard and capsized vessels remain the primary causes in OPP-investigated boating fatalities, while losing control is a contributing factor in a significant number of off-road vehicle deaths every year.
