A section of Winhara Road in Gravenhurst was closed for an investigation after a fatal collision between a motor vehicle and a train earlier today.

Listeners reported the incident at the train tracks at Jones Road and Winhara around 12:45 pm.

OPP Cst. Samantha Bigley who was on scene (in photo), reported the collision resulted in the death of one person.

The Gravenhurst Fire Department was able to assist with gaining access to the vehicle, unfortunately the driver, a 55-year-old Bracebridge resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured during the collision.

The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the OPP Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) team and more details will be released as they become available.

Winhara remains closed between Bethune and Jones Road at this time.
