A new cybercrimes operation centre has opened at OPP headquarters in Orillia.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Commissioner Thomas Carrique was joined by Solicitor General Sylvia Jones today to celebrate.
The new centre houses a diverse mix of uniform, special constables and civilian members who possess highly-technical skill sets needed to assist with search warrants, collect evidence or provide sophisticated digital analysis for investigators.
The Centre is now home to the Cyber Operations Section, which includes the Cybercrime Investigations Team, the Digital Forensics Unit and Forensic Video Analysis Unit.
“Public safety is a fundamental responsibility of government, and we are determined to provide police officers with the tools, resources and support they need to combat crime on all fronts,” said Jones. “We applaud the OPP for this endeavour.”
